Seismic response distribution expressions for on‐ground rigid rocking blocks under ordinary ground motions

چکیده
Predictive relationships are offered for the response of on-ground 2D rigid blocks undergoing rocking. Among others, this is pertinent to (1) modern or classical antiquity structures that utilize rocking as a seismic protection mechanism and (2) freestanding contents (e.g., cabinets, bookcases, museum artifacts) located on ground lower floors stiff buildings. Blocks varying dimensions were subjected full range assessment under increasing intensity levels ordinary (no-pulse no-long-duration) motions, parameterized by peak acceleration velocity. Both normalized, allowing fitting general-purpose parametric expressions determine mean dispersion an arbitrary block interest. These can be utilized in same way conventional strength-ratio/ductility/period yielding oscillators, enable rapid design simple systems.

متن کاملSelection of Optimal Intensity Measure for Seismic Assessment of Steel Buckling Restrained Braced Frames under Near-Fault Ground Motions
Buckling restrained braces (BRBs) have a similar behavior under compression and tension loadings. Therefore, they can be applied as a favorable lateral load resisting system for structures. In the performance-based earthquake engineering (PBEE) framework, an intermediate variable called intensity measure (IM) links the seismic hazard analysis with the structural response analyses. An optimal IM...
متن کاملSeismic Fragility Assessment of Steel SMRF Structures under Various Types of Near Fault Forward Directivity Ground Motions
In this paper, the seismic collapse probability of special steel moment-resisting frame (SSMRF) structures under near fault pulse-like and far fault ordinary ground motions is evaluated through fragility analysis. For this purpose, five sample frames with 3 to 15 stories are designed and imposed to the ground motion excitations with different characteristics. Fragility curves are derived for th...
متن کاملApproximate Geometric Pattern Matching Under Rigid Motions
We present techniques for matching point-sets in two and three dimensions under rigid-body transformations. We prove bounds on the worst-case performance of these algorithms to be within a small constant factor of optimal, and conduct experiments to show that the average performance of these matching algorithms is often better than that predicted by the worst-case bounds.
متن کاملRocking Response and Overturning of Equipment under Horizontal Pulse-Type Motions
In this report the transient rocking response of electrical equipment subjected to trigonometric pulses and near-source ground motions is investigated in detail. First the rocking response of a rigid block subjected to a half-sine pulse motion is reviewed. It is shown that the solution presented by Housner (1963) for the minimum acceleration amplitude of a half-sine pulse that is needed to over...
